During the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, short track speed skater Viktor Ahn was one of the top performers at Iceberg Skating Palace. Ahn, who was the most decorated male athlete in the Sochi Games, recorded four total medals — three gold.

Now, Ahn has a special medal that he will be able to add to his collection.

Because he won a gold medal on Feb. 15, which was the one year anniversary of the Russian city Chelyabinsk being struck by a meteorite, Ahn was awarded with a medal embedded with fragments of the meteorite that struck Russia.

The chunks of meteorite were “chipped off and inserted into” the special edition medal.

Every athlete who won gold on Feb. 15 was awarded with one of the special meteorite medals, but none of the athletes were Americans.
