The Atlanta Braves did what had been expected, and placed five pitchers on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
None of the names come as a surprise, but seeing the list all at once is a bit eye-opening.
Starting pitchers Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen, who are both undergoing their second Tommy John surgery, are on the list, and are both gone for the season. Added to the list as well are starters Mike Minor (left shoulder tendinitis) and Gavin Floyd, and reliever Jonny Venters.
Floyd and Venters are both in the midst of recovering from their own bouts of elbow reconstruction, and should be back with the club this season.
Minor, Floyd and Venters are all continuing rehab, with Minor expected to be able to rejoin the club in mid-April, and Floyd and Venters looking more like May or even June returns.
The Braves bullpen depth will be able to carry them without Venters for a while, but the starting rotation is now paper-thin, and will get a huge boost when Minor makes his return.
