Boston Red Sox announce one-year extension for David Ortiz

Late Sunday night, the Boston Red Sox officially announced what had been rumored already throughout the day that they have reached an agreement with DH David Ortiz on a one-year extension through the 2015 season, with options for 2016 and 2017.

After much negotiation throughout the offseason, the team was able to come to this agreement and the dollar figure is said to be near the $16 million mark. After the announcement, owner John Henry released some words of praise for the person that has been the backbone of his organization for the better part of the last decade.

Now, Red Sox fans can relax, although I think we all knew deep down that there would be no other place Ortiz would end up rather than Beantown.
