Diego Brandao, winner of season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, had his fight pulled from UFC Fight Night 38 after some troubling information about his opponent’s past came to light. Will Chope, who was slated to face Brandao in the featured prelim on FOX Sports 1, was discharged from the Air Force after beating his wife and threatening her from a knife.
The UFC released Chope and now Brandao will not be able to fight in his home country on Sunday.
While that is disappointing for Brandao after putting in the hard work to prepare for his bout, the UFC will be taking care of him.
The good news for Brandao is that the UFC plans to pay him his show and win money for the bout.
It is still unfortunate that we will all be missing out on what could have been an exciting fight, but the UFC made the right move by removing a man who has a history of beating up women. It is hard to blame them for their decision but it is easy to applaud them for stepping up and taking care of Brandao.
