Following the upset of the Kansas Jayhawks by Stanford on Sunday, one match up in the Sweet 16 later this week is now set as two surprising teams will be facing off in the South Region as the Cardinal will be taking on the Dayton Flyers for the right to play for the regional title.
Dayton began their journey to the Sweet 16 on Thursday in their Second Round game by upsetting Aaron Craft and the Ohio State Buckeyes. That win set them up with in a showdown on Saturday with the Syracuse Orange, another huge test that they passed by making sure that the Orange couldn’t hit an outside shot to keep their season alive.
Stanford is another squad that not many expected to be in this position. On Thursday, the 10th-seeded Cardinal barely survived a match up with the New Mexico Lobos. They followed that up in the first Third Round game on Sunday by upsetting the second-seeded Kansas Jayhawks and Andrew Wiggins.
