Less than 24 hours after he coached his team to the biggest upset of the tournament so far over the Syracuse Orange, Dayton Flyers head coach Archie Miller was a guest with the CBS crew during halftime of the Kansas-Stanford contest to talk about the game Saturday night, and their upcoming berth in the Sweet 16. It could have been a nice interview–if Greg Gumbel remembered which Miller he was talking to.
During the talk, Gumbel apparently thought that he was talking to Archie’s brother, Sean, who is the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, the top-seed in the West Region.
Then, things got really weird as the interview just mysteriously cut out.
That’s about as awkward as you can get, while at the same time might just be a testament to how big of an underdog the Flyers and coach Miller are–if Greg Gumbel of all people can’t remember his name.
This hasn’t been the first snafu this weekend by the CBS commentating crew, and that goes for the announcers as well as just the other night Mr. Catalon referred to a strategy as “Hack a Polack.”
