Oregon’s Johnathan Loyd angry after Wisconsin loss

Oregon Ducks senior Johnathan Loyd’s collegiate career came to a disappointing end Saturday night. The Ducks looked strong during the first half against the Wisconsin Badgers but couldn’t close the deal down the stretch, losing 85-77.

Although the loss of their 12-point halftime lead was a failure on behalf of the whole team, Loyd was especially critical of himself when speaking with reporters after the game:

“I’m just mad, bro. I feel like I let the team down so that’s all I feel right now. I didn’t make no shots, I didn’t get no rebounds, I just didn’t play good at all. … We were just giving them more open looks and we weren’t boxing out. It didn’t have anything to do with the crowd, we just let them eat.”

Loyd certainly had a lackluster performance — 1-of-7 shooting with only five assists — but responsibility for the loss should fall on the shoulders of everyone. The Badgers dominated the Ducks on the boards, finishing with 14 offensive rebounds to the Ducks’ measly three. That disparity in rebounding, combined with the Badgers’ excellent late-game defense, created a storm the Ducks just couldn’t weather.
