Will Chope had a tough weight cut yesterday, but that was only the beginning of his problems. The 6’4 Featherweight even had to shave his head in order to make weight for his bout against Diego Brandao today.
Hours after his weight cut, it was revealed that Chope had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force after assaulting his wife and threatening her with a knife in November 2009. That was also not the only incident between the two, according to an Air Force Court of Appeals document.
When the news spread like wildfire yesterday, the UFC was forced to pull Chope off the card and release him from the organization. Diego Brandao, who lost his opponent, will be given his show and win money for his troubles.
Chope took to Facebook to react being released by the UFC:
My fight has been canceled for a 5 year old mistake I made. I am truly sorry to all the fans and will do everything I can to make this right. I have spoken with my ex-wife on the phone and she supports what I am doing and together we will make a formal press release as soon as I get back to the USA on Wednesday.
