The Oakland Raiders completed a trade with the Houston Texans to acquire quarterback Matt Schaub, and they wasted no time naming him their starting signal-caller. Oakland also did some work behind the scenes to make Schaub more affordable in the final years of his current contract.

Adam Schefter of ESPN had the details:

Schaub’s old deal would have paid him $24.5 million over the next two seasons, but now the Raiders can have their guy locked up for the next two years with a smaller cap number.

The Raiders appear to be excited about Schaub and what he can bring to the team, even if he was benched for an undrafted free agent last season.
