MLB Rumors: Pirates, Diamondbacks have discussed Didi Gregorius trade

The Arizona Diamondbacks appear dead set on acquiring a starting pitcher before Opening Day (at least the United States based Opening Day) and appear willing to use infielder Didi Gregorius as trade bait.

Arizona doesn’t have a lot of need for both Gregorius and Chris Owings on the same roster and with Owings outplaying Gregorius in Spring Training, it appears Didi is the odd man out.

That has lead to the Diamondbacks making the young Gregorius available for trade and it appears the Pittsburgh Pirates have interest.

Source: Pirates have had trade talks with Diamondbacks about shortstop Didi Gregorius.

It’s a pretty vague tweet from Jon Morosi as there is no word on what type of compensation would go going Arizona’s way or how deep the talks went.

Arizona is attempting to make up for the loss of Patrick Corbin and the Pirates could certainly use an upgrade over Jordy Mercer/Clint Barmes up the middle.

We’ll continue to monitor the talks – stay tuned to for any future updates on a potential deal.
