The San Francisco 49ers don’t want to deal with quarterback Colin Kaepernick becoming an unrestricted free agent, so understandably, they’re looking to lock up the signal caller long term.

Only problem? Money.

Kaepernick has become an enigma as few players have risen to such prominence at the quarterback position so quickly with a pay day on the horizon. But how much of that rise is on Kaepernick himself and how much of that is the San Francisco 49ers?

That’s the million dollar question – $20 million dollar question, to be exact, as that’s the rumored figure Kaepernick is looking for yearly.

It’s a price that’s likely too high for the 49ers, despite the fact head coach Jim Harbaugh says getting an extension completed is of the highest priority.

"Coach Jim Harbaugh said it’s a “high priority” for the 49ers to lock up quarterback Colin Kaepernick to a long-term contract extension."

For what it’s worth, Harbaugh says these things have a ‘process that play out’, so he doesn’t seem overly concerned about the two sides not striking a deal.
