Norman Parke upset about point deduction that led to draw with Leonardo Santos

Last night, at UFC Fight Night 38, Norman Parke and Leonardo Santos fought to a majority draw. The main reason the bout was scored a draw was due to a point deduction for Parke in the second round.

During a takedown attempt, Parke attempted to grab Santos’ leg, but instead got a hand full of shorts. The referee stopped the bout, and took a point from Parke without warning him. While it was a blatant foul from Parke, it did not lead to a takedown and a warning would have sufficed. The point deduction changed the complexion of the fight, and ultimately led to a draw.

Norman Parke shared his frustration on Twitter yesterday, and Dana White agreed:

Santos grabbed the cage numerous times during the bout, but was never warned or deducted a point from the referee. It will be interesting to see if the UFC decides to do this fight once again, or choose for both competitors to move on.
