Tigers sign J.D. Martinez to minor league deal

The Tigers continued their busy few days by increasing their outfield depth.

The Detroit Tigers PR account just tweeted that the team has agreed to a minor-league deal with recently released J.D. Martinez. The 26-year old outfielder has already reported to minor-league camp in Florida.

The Houston Astros released Martinez last week, claiming that there was no spot for him in their outfield, a problem that general manager Jeff Luhnow says makes the team a “victim of our own success.”

In three seasons with the Astros, Martinez has hit .251/.300/.387 as a backup corner outfielder.
