The sound you are hearing right now is more than likely the collective sighs of relief from Marvel fans all around the world. It was announced last week that Twentieth Century Fox has officially attached a release date to the upcoming sequel to the 2013 film The Wolverine. There was just one problem…there was not confirmation regarding the return of the biggest, most important name in the film; the man who has played Wolverine for the last 14 years.
Thankfully, all of that has changed. Deadline is reporting that Hugh Jackman will indeed be returning to the claw wielding role we have all come to know and love.
At this particular point and time, there are no details available as to where the story will pick up or where they plan to take it. As you can imagine, he production is still in the very early stages, so it may be a little while until we see some solid information on that front.
Director James Mangold, who directed the previous Wolverine film, will be returning to his seat behind the camera. Screenwriter David James Kelly, who has also been tasked with writing the upcoming currently untitled Daredevil reboot will also be penning the script for The Wolverine 2.
As I said, there is not a lot of information available at this point; however, it is definitely a good sign that they have been able to secure Jackman for at least one more go-around as our favorite claw-wielding mutant.
Mangold revealed on Twitter last week that the movie would begin filming after the completion of X-Men: Apocalypse.
The Wolverine 2 is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
