Kentucky senator accidentally uses Duke celebration footage in ad, instead of Wildcats

United States Senator Mitch McConnell is running for reelection in his home state. He released an ad for his campaign featuring a montage of many different and varying images.

Towards the very end of the video, there was scene of some college basketball players celebrating a championship in blue uniforms. You might think it was the Kentucky Wildcats but closer examination revealed that it was in fact the Duke Blue Devils.

That is right, the Kentucky senator’s video shows Duke players Jon Scheyer and Lance Thomas celebrating. The ad has since been edited and replaced that clip with an image of Kentucky’s Julius Randle.

“The ad was intended to highlight Kentucky’s basketball dominance and obviously the web ad vendor has become so accustomed to watching national championship celebrations in the bluegrass state that they made a mistake with one of the images,” McConnell’s campaign spokeswoman Allison Moore wrote in an email Tuesday to The Huffington Post. “Obviously we were horrified by the error and quickly changed it.”

That second ad with Randle didn’t last long too.
