Mexico soccer: El Tri World Cup uniforms inspired by Rey Mysterio

The Mexican national soccer team has had some pretty incredible uniforms in the past, but their kits for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil feature some unique designs that have been influenced by a figure that many sports fans should already be familiar with.

If you understand Mexico’s lucha libre culture and how the luchador mask is used by warriors and signifies that part of the culture, then you can see that it is a great way for El Tri to draw inspiration for their uniforms.

One wrestler in particular that the Mexican squad drew their inspiration from was WWE star Rey Mysterio.

“I will show you the process we had for MexicoThe language of the design comes from the culture of the lucha libre, we wanted to bring it into the jersey in some way and we wanted to be aggressive,” the company Iñigo said, via La Verdad.

At first the El Tri jerseys may have looked a bit bizarre to fans of the team, but now that we can all understand the inspiration the become more appealing.
