MLB Rumors: Scott Baker nearing deal with Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers have been hit hard with injuries during Spring Training. Seeking some depth to potentially get them by, the team is reportedly interested in starting pitcher Scott Baker.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Baker and the Rangers are nearing a deal.

From 2008 to 2011 Baker was a solid pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, winning 10 games for three seasons in a row at one point. Likely destined for a career as a steady though unspectacular middle of the rotation guy at that point, Baker has been plagued with elbow injuries the last few years.

He spent Spring Training this year with the Seattle Mariners but was unable to grab a spot on their roster. Now he will apparently catch on with the Rangers. Given their luck, Baker ought to have a decent chance of appearing in the big leagues if he can prove himself to have enough value in the minor leagues.
