Multiple teams have shown interest in free agent running back Maurice Jones-Drew in recent weeks, but none of them have been willing to meet the asking price of the veteran.
Because of that, the longtime Jacksonville Jaguars talent is apparently threatening to sit out until late Summer if teams aren’t willing to meet his salary demands.
The source said Jones-Drew might be willing to wait until late in the summer or even into the season as an injury replacement if teams aren’t willing to meet his price.
Jones is reportedly seeking a deal that would pay him upwards of $3 million dollars annually, but that’s a pretty hefty asking price for a player who has shown decline and has become somewhat injury prone.
I’m not sure why Jones-Drew seems to think that his price would increase if he was to wait out the free agent period, but I have to think he’ll be in for a rude awakening if he does attempt such.
Sure, teams will be interested, but they’re certainly not going to give him a multi-year contract paying him the type of money he wants.
