The New England Patriots could be in the market for a running back if they’re unable to re-sign LeGarrette Blount, but Maurice Jones-Drew might not be a player they’re targeting.

Despite a Monday afternoon report that suggested the Patriots were interested in the longtime Jacksonville Jaguars running back, CSN New England says the Patriots have not contacted the veteran and don’t appear to have interest in signing him.

"The New England Patriots have not expressed interest in Maurice Jones-Drew, contrary to reports circulating Monday.Jones-Drew, the longtime Jaguars back, is a free agent. The Patriots were among four teams mentioned as having inquired about adding Jones-Drew."

If Blount is to leave via free agency, the Patriots will likely tap into the market so it’s possible the interest was drummed up by MJD’s agent in effort to increase his price tag.

Jones-Drew hasn’t been receiving the type of offers he’s wanting and it’s been said he may sit out until late Summer before signing a contract.

Regardless, it doesn’t appear as if MJD will be playing for the Patriots next season.
