Evgeni Malkin will miss two-three weeks with a foot injury sustained in the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 loss on Sunday to the St. Louis Blues. It is not clear which foot is injured, but the injury likely is going to shelve him for the remainder of the regular season.
Malkin is second to Sidney Crosby on the team with 72 points in 60 games which is also good for seventh in the league, but the good news head coach Dan Bylsma believes the former Hart trophy winner will be healthy when the Stanley Cup playoffs begin April 16.
Brandon Sutter will center the second line in Malkin’s absence, but with 24 points in 71 games is a far cry form teh scoring ability that Malkin brings to the ice on a nightly basis.
With 97 points the Penguins are basically locked into the second spot in the Eastern Conference as they trail the Boston Bruins by seven points and host the Phoenix Coyotes at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight at 7:00 p.m.
