Shogun Rua to have surgery on broken nose

Dan Henderson rearranged Shogun Rua’s face this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 38 with one perfectly timed right hand. In the rematch of their epic UFC 139 bout, Henderson once again defeated Shogun, but this time by way of TKO in the third round.

It was a stellar main event to cap off a great night of fights. In the end, Shogun’s face was an absolute mess and clearly in need of surgery. If you have not seen his broken nose from after the fight, check it out here.

Rua’s manager Eduardo Alonso told FOX Sports on Monday that Rua will visit a doctor on Tuesday and will have surgery within the week, possibly as early as Wednesday.

The good news for Rua is that was the extent of his injuries suffered at the end ofDan Henderson’s crushing right hand.

“His only injury is a broken nose, nothing too serious,” Alonso said. “Other than that, all fine.”

A broken nose usually takes several weeks to heal completely, but specific recovery time is dependent upon the severity of the fracture.

Rua said after the bout that he would like to spend some time with his family, so it could be some a while before we see Shogun back in action. FanSided will keep you updated when any more information is made available.
