The Miami Marlins made a contribution to the free agent pool by releasing another utility infielder.
Ty Wigginton has been give his release and will look to land a job on the open market, likely as a backup. Wigginton has been a starter as a first baseman and shortstop, most notably in 2010 with the Orioles as he made his first All-Star appearance.
Last season, Wigginton struggled in his only year with the Cardinals, being released before the All-Star break after playing in just 47 games. The 35-year old only hit .158/.238/.193 off of the bench.
