Alexander Gustafsson is fresh off his scintillating knockout victory over previously undefeated Jimi Manuwa back at UFC Fight Night 37. With the win, Gustafsson did his part in making the rematch vs Jon Jones. Jones, who fights at UFC 172 against Glover Teixeira, will need to do his part in order for the duo to trade fists once more.
Many have accused Jones of ducking Gustafsson, and it seems that Gus agrees with Jones’ critics. In a recent interview with BT Sport, Gareth Davies asked Gustafsson what he thought about Jones’ comments regarding a potential #1 contender fight between Daniel Cormier and Gustafsson (Courtesy of MMA Fighting):
If I look at Jones’ perspective I don’t think that’s strange, because he tries to avoid me. Everyone can see that. I can see that. He does what it takes to not fight me. For myself, it doesn’t make any sense. I think DC is a great fighter. I respect him and I think he’s a top contender, but I think he has to have another fight or two before he will fight for the title. The only thing that makes sense, in my mind, is me versus Jones next. I want him to beat Glover Teixeira, because I want to take the belt from Jon Jones.”
