When the Los Angeles Dodgers traveled to Australia to ‘open’ the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks last week, they did so in style – not only coming away with two straight victories but relief pitcher Brian Wilson looked rather stylish in the process.
The former eccentric San Francisco Giants closer wanted to make his presence known while down under and commissioned some custom cleats to be crafted which included pictures of koalas and kangaroos. In addition, the Dodgers logo was represented in a photo of the Australian continent.
Only Brian Wilson.
So did Wilson get to show off the kicks? While there was no national television coverage, the unique reliever did pitch in one game, posting a clean, two -strikeout hold in one of the Dodgers victories.
Wilson has always had a thing for unique designs on his cleats – including wearing extremely bright orange kicks during his San Francisco Giants tenure, which umpires forced him to color with a black sharpie.
The new cleats should go well with Wilson’s handgun tattoo – on – what else – his hand.
