LPGA: World No. 1 Inbee Park will use local knowledge at the Kia Classic

Rolex World No. 1 Inbee Park is off to a solid start this season with three top 10 finishes in three starts.  During the pre-tournament press conference at the Kia Classic, Park mentioned she is striking the ball well, but would like to see a few more putts drop.

Inbee’s parents, grandpa, and mental coach will be visiting from South Korea this weekend.  Park said her mental coach comes to three tournaments a year, but they talk on the phone about twice a week.  Her mental coach is a source of positivity, “when I’m going in a very negative way, she turns me [to a] positive way…she’s a good mentor for me.”

Inbee spent time in Southern California during the offseason, and she played Aviara Golf Course several times, “I’m ready for it, ready for this week.”  Local knowledge will be helpful on the large, undulating greens at Aviara.

The first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, takes place next week.  Inbee is the defending champion, and a noticeable achievement has eluded her stellar career so far, “I’ve never defended a tournament before, so I think it will be good to do in a major tournament.”

If the putts start falling, and Inbee notches her first win of 2014 at the Kia Classic, don’t be surprised if she successfully defends her title at the Kraft Nabisco next week.
