Lester indicates dialogue ongoing between Red Sox and his agents but nothing new to report on possible extension.
Lester (like most players) isn’t exactly thrilled with the idea of discussing contractual terms during the season and Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said he was hoping for a resolution by the start of the season, so the clock appears to be ticking.
Of course, the lack of ‘new’ information doesn’t exactly mean there hasn’t been any progress in the talks, just that neither side feels the need to make any public comments about the inner workings of the deal.
If the Red Sox are unable to come to terms with Lester now (or during the season), they’ll have a short window after the conclusion of the World Series to do so. If the two sides are still unable to find a middle ground, Lester will become a free agent.
