After UFC 171, the Ultimate Fighting Championship had a new welterweight champion in Johny Hendricks but the next title contender was still unclear. With Hendricks out until later in the year following bicep surgery, the UFC can match two of the top contenders against each other to determine the title challenger for Hendrick’s first championship defense.
That is exactly what the promotion plans to do at UFC 174 with a 170-pound match up between Rory MacDonald and Tyron Woodley.

UFC 174 takes place in Vancouver on June 14, which is right around the time that Hendricks should be able to return to the gym if his rehab goes according to plan.
Once a winner is determined, they could be set for a title shot in the fall when the champ is ready to return to the octagon.
