The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added their first new wide receiver of the offseason in free agency speedster Louis Murphy. Tampa Bay has bee splashy this offseason but they hadn’t yet dipped their toes into the receive pool, but now have with the signing of Murphy.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plucked players from all over the country during the first few days of free agency, but they haven’t had to look far for their two most recent signings.
On Wednesday, the Buccaneers inked wide receiver Louis Murphy most recently of the New York Giants, to a one-year contract.
Murphy is on a one-year ‘use me’ deal, as the Buccaneers and Murphy are mutually using one another on a one-year contract. While the Buccaneers will be drafting a receiver that will almost certainly push Murphy into a situational role, Murphy is taking the Bucs money with out any guarantee of actually producing.
It’s beneficial to both though if Murphy develops into a deep threat speedster for the Buccaneers, as if he can channel his brilliant early years with the Oakland Raiders, then he could be in for a fatter contract next season and the Bucs will get great value out of a guy not many counted on this offseason.
