Well, it was fun for a few years for the Massachusetts Minutemen to be a part of big-time college football, but they’ve apparently had enough as according to ESPN, they will be leaving the Mid-American Conference following the 2015 season.
The Mid-American Conference and University of Massachusetts reached an agreement forcing UMass to leave the league as a football-only member after the 2015 season, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Two years ago, UMass became a football-only member of the MACtion, but things have been anything bu successful for the school during their stay so far. They’ve only won two games overall the last two seasons, both of them conference games.
ESPN was also told that UMass was offered full athletic membership last month, but the school declined, which may have been a foreshadowing of the announcement today.
As of this point, it’s not known where the football team will play its games following the 2015 season, but one would have to expect that the CAA might be an option.
