If there was any hope that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the octagon in 2014, you can kiss them goodbye. On Thursday, St-Pierre announced that he has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and his potential return will be delayed.
The former welterweight king will have surgery in a few days.
St-Pierre posted the following on his Facebook page:
Just got confirmation that I tore my left knee ACL during training this week… Surgery in a few days and rehab starts right away. We all face challenges in our lives and I know only one way to take this one: Pain, hard work, no shortcuts and I will soon be back at 100%. Stay tuned and thanks for your amazing support, as always.
St-Pierre will face months of recovery time and now he will be unable to fight until early 2015 if he decides that he wants to return to the sport that he walked away from just a short time ago.
In St-Pierre’s absence, the last man that he defeated, Johny Hendricks, has captured the UFC’s 170-pound title.
