Kliff Kingsbury: Johnny Manziel should be first overall pick in 2014 NFL draft

Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury knows all about Johnny Manziel after serving as the offensive coordinator for Texas A&M when Manziel became the first freshman to win the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 2012.

After Manziel completed his personal pro day when the eyes of many across the sports world were on the former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback, Kingsbury proclaimed his former pupil as the first pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

Manziel is on the short list of candidates to be the top pick, currently owned by the Houston Texans, and with the team trading Matt Schaub, the team is in desperate need for a quarterback.

Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater are the other top candidates at quarterback to be the top pick, but neither possesses the star power Manziel brings to the table.

Plus, Manziel is the hometown kid after growing up in Kerrville, Texas and starring at A&M, so that could be enough for Bill O’Brien and the Texans to pull the trigger on “Jonathan Football.”
