March Madness Sweet 16 2014: Dayton advances to Elite 8 with 82-72 win over Stanford

No one really saw neither the Stanford Cardinal nor the Dayton Flyers in the Sweet 16, but with good opening round performances by each team, that’s exactly where they found themselves. But when it was all said and done on Thursday night, it was the scrappy Flyers that will advance on to the South Region final with an 82-72 win over Stanford.

Dayton was firmly in control of this one right from the start, taking a commanding 10-point lead at 42-32 into the half after their offensive explosion in the first 20 minutes.

With about eight minutes to go in the half, Stanford had the lead cut to as much as 64-58, but Dayton pulled away once again and never looked back as Archie Miller and his crew will be moving on.

Now, the Flyers will await the winner of the Florida-UCLA game to be played later tonight to see who they will be facing on Saturday with the right to go to the Final Four on the line.
