Coyotes’ Mike Ribeiro To Be Healthy Scratch

After being a healthy scratch for Phoenix’s 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, it looks like forward Mike Ribeiro will find himself sitting in the press box for the second straight game when the Coyotes take on the New Jersey Devils Thursday night.

Ribeiro, who is in the first of a four-year, $22 million contract, leads the Coyotes this season in assists with 30. He is fourth on the team in points with 45.

The being said, Ribeiro had been on a slump that saw him score just two points in the previous nine games prior to the Pittsburgh benching. Hopefully for the Coyotes sake, this benching can lead to Ribeiro finding a spark in his game as Phoenix fights with Dallas and Vancouver for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Entering Thursday’s action, the Coyotes hold the second wild card spot in the West with 82 points. Dallas is three behind with 79 while the Canucks have 78.

Ribeiro is a waste of money, and they could have got a much better player. He is the highest paid forward on the team and has nothing to show for it. Hopefully this benching isn’t to get him fired up, but to keep him from damaging the teams playoff hopes. Morris is another story. He is a solid player that has been in a slump, and is hopefully benefiting from some rest.
