Last week, Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils were dealt an unfortunate early exit from the 2014 NCAA Tournament when they were upset in a massive way by the Mercer Bears of the Atlantic Sun Conference. In recent years, when Duke’s seasons end, not only are there questions surrounding whether or not some of his players will be staying, but him as well.
As the years go on, people wonder just how much longer the legend will remain in Durham, and in his end-of-the-season address, he said he’ll be on the bench for at least the next five years.
“I’m looking forward to the next five years,” Krzyzewski said during his end-of-season address to reporters. “What do we do in the next five, not just what do we do next season. What are the decisions? The first thing is, I look at me. I’m going to be here.
It’s not just age anymore with Coach K, but health issues as well. During a game earlier this season against Wake Forest, he needed to be taken to the hospital following a dizzy spell, something that has happened before.
But you can bet that as long as a doctor signs off on him being on that bench, he will be the coach of the Duke Blue Devils–even if that’s for more than the next five years.
