NCAA Tournament 2014: Stanford vs. Dayton preview and predictions

One of the most intriguing games of the night and of the entire Sweet Sixteen sees the Stanford Cardinal take on the Dayton Flyers with just a single seed separating them. It’s the ever rare 10-11 seed matchup on Thursday night and it may shape up to the best game of the round.

Both teams are coming into things with a lot of momentum, as the Cardinal knocked off first the higher seeded new Mexico Lobos and then the even higher seeded Kansas Jayhawks to survive the first weekend of the tournament. While they didn’t face a No. 2 seed like the Cardinal did, Dayton busted brackets with the first game of the tournament, downing Ohio State, and then snuck past the Syracuse Orange in the Round of 32.

Both teams have made it a lot longer than many thought but only one will continue their dream run to the Elite Eight. This is why March is so full of Madness, as neither team was supposed to be where they are now and one will continue that trend.

When it comes down to it. Stanford seems to have more going for them, specifically on defense where they can hold things down. They stifled the Lobos and even more impressively held down Andrew Wiggins and the Jayhawks.

But the trouble in counting out the Flyers is that they’ve already been counted out twice and are still standing. There’s something special about both teams but Stanford seems too hot at the moment.

Prediction: Stanford advances to the Elite Eight, 72-65
