Orioles' Johan Santana threw off a full mound

The Baltimore Orioles and left handed veteran Johan Santana agree’d to a minor league deal at the beginning of the month, which should be a relief for Santana himself.

It looked as if teams weren’t going to offer him anything at all this season, but Baltimore stepped up. Santana didn’t pitch in 2013 after recovering from surgery that repaired a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. This was his second time undergoing the surgery, which obviously takes a toll on players.

Now according to Roch Kubatko on Twitter, the left handed veteran threw off a full mound today.

This is obviously big news for the Orioles, who are hoping that he can return to his Cy Young award winning form. Even though he’s throwing off a full mound today, it doesn’t mean that he’ll become an option for the team anytime soon. He’ll more than likely have to wait a couple months or more than half of the year to contribute to the team.
