Ottawa forward Bobby Ryan isn’t the only one missing the rest of the season due to sports hernia surgery. Florida defenseman Tom Gilbert will also miss the remainder of the season after undergoing the same surgery, the Miami Herald reports.
Averaging 21:20 TOI per game, Gilbert had scored 28 points in 70 games for the Panthers. It was his first season in Florida after he was bought out last offseason by the Minnesota Wild. Gilbert is a pending UFA who, despite the procedure, is expected to garner a lot of traction in a free agent market with few quality defensemen available.
