It’s baseball season and with that come strange marketing ploys from minor league teams, including the addition of alternate uniforms.
In recent weeks we’ve seen minor league baseball teams announcing that they plan to wear Ghostbusters jerseys, Star Wars jerseys, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jerseys and we’ve even seen a team announce they will be wearing a jersey completely made of fan submitted selfies.
Now we have a new one – this time involving social media.
The Oakland Athletics AAA-affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, plan to wear a Twitter jersey come this August.

The uniforms will feature the player’s Twitter handle on the back of the jersey which features a ‘verified’ check under the River Cats name.
It’s definitely a little different and probably won’t go over as well as the ‘superhero’ uniforms previously mentioned, but it’s still rather innovative.
As you may recall, earlier this season the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat each wore traditional uniforms with player nicknames on the back – though the addition of the Twitter handle itself is new.
