Boston Red Sox option two to Triple-A Pawtucket

The 2013 World Series winning Boston Red Sox made a couple roster moves today that included catcher Ryan Lavarnway.

Lavarnway was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket today, along with pitcher Drake Britton. The 26 year old catcher finished the Spring with 11 hits through 38 at-bats with two home runs, five RBI’s and a batting line of .289/.357/.474. He made his debut with the Red Sox back in 2011 and has five career home runs.

The young catcher will provide the Red Sox with depth at the Triple-A level and could possibly see himself being called up later on in the year.

Left handed pitcher Drake Britton made six appearances for the Red Sox this Spring. He’ll go into the 2014 hoping to improve after posting a 6.52 ERA through nine and two-third innings pitched. In his last outing against the Minnesota Twins, he was able to make it through one inning without giving up a hit.

He was tagged for five earned runs against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 16th.
