Just when the Yankees thought they could get away without any infield injuries, one pops up that could impact them in the first half.
Brendan Ryan, who had been signed as the backup and insurance policy for Derek Jeter will start on the disabled list after suffering an oblique strain. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com passes on word from Brian Cashman that once Ryan’s DL time is done, he will basically start Spring Training over again during extended Spring Training in Florida.
The injury to Ryan could allow for prospect Dean Anna to start on the Opening Day roster behind Jeter, or the Yankees may opt to give that spot to former Rangers’ prospect Yangervis Solarte, who has been impressive this Spring.
