Cris Cyborg is a very busy woman. Tonight, Cyborg takes on two-time Muay Thai champion, Jorina Baars, at Lion Fight 14. In May, Cyborg will likely fight for Invicta as the Featherweight champion. In July, she will return to Muay Thai with Lion Fights. All of the above bouts will take place at 145.
For Cyborg to ultimately get where she wants to be, a title fight against Ronda Rousey in the UFC, she must first be able to make the cut to 135 pounds. In a recent interview with MMAFighting, Cyborg discussed her plans to make 135 and to take out Rousey:
I (will) try to make 135. I will try. I think it’s very important to make 135 so I can fight for the belt, and because I want to keep that weight class because there are more girls I can fight. I can fight a superfight. I’m already the champ at 145. I don’t want to be selfish. I want one more belt. If I can’t fight at 135 for the belt, it’s okay. I can fight at 145 and be more healthy. But it’s not possible at 145 or a catch weight because Ronda is running from me. If I make 135, Ronda can’t run.
With her schedule full past this summer, you can expect Cyborg to attempt to make the 135 pound limit sometime around September. The UFC has said they would not sign her unless she has proven she could make 135 elsewhere. FanSided will keep you updated as the story develops.
