The career of DeSean Jackson in Philadelphia has come to an end, and the new concerns about his gang activity may end up freezing the free agent market for him. But while there are those concerns about Jackson being related to a Los Angeles based gang, the interest level in the speedster is still there and some prestigious teams could get in on the hunt.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Jets, Raiders and 49ers are among a handful of teams that will likely reach out to Jackson in the immediate future now that acquiring him requires only a contract and not any other compensation.
Teams that definitely were interested in Jackson (although not at $10.5 million for 2014) at a time when he was merely on the trading block included the 49ers, Seahawks, and Jets. Teams like the Patriots and Raiders also could be thrown into the mix.
In the wake of the Aaron Hernandez murder case, teams are especially careful about gang relations with players, and the West Coast connections that Jackson apparently has may mean teams like the 49ers, Raiders and Seahawks steer clear.
Still, we don’t know what Jackson is involved in but we do know there is interest in him and it likely won’t take long for him to sign.
