Several of the world’s best players are in the mix heading into round two of the Kia Classic at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, California.
Paula Creamer and Mariajo Uribe lead at five-under par (67), followed by Christie Kerr, Shanshan Feng, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, and Mi Hyang Lee at four-under par (68).
In round one, the players battled swirling wind all day, and bumpy greens and slow play in the afternoon.
Rounds in the afternoon took nearly five and a half hours to complete with flood lights helping the last few groups finish their rounds.
The players who felt the bumpy greens and slow play affected their ability to score will be ready to get a crack at the smooth greens and quicker pace of play this morning.
Also in the mix are Rolex World No. 1 Inbee Park, Lexi Thompson, Lizette Salas, Azahara Munoz, and San Diego native Tiffany Joh at three-under par (69).
Inbee Park said she hit the ball well enough to shoot 10-under, so lookout for the World No. 1 when she starts making some putts.
Putting was a common theme on day one. The players who get hot with the flat stick will be in the best position to win this weekend.
