The football world exploded on Friday with the news that the Philadelphia Eagles, after exploring potential trade options, had decided to just cut top wide receiver DeSean Jackson, most notably among reports of possible gang affiliation.

Nonetheless, this move put one of the best wide receivers in the league on the open market, and one of the first to express their interest in signing him was Carolina Panthers coach, Ron Rivera.

But, according to Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk, despite the claims of Rivera, the team has zero interest in bringing in the former Cal star.

"One source with direct knowledge of the team’s thinking made the team’s level of interest clear via phone call to PFT:  The Panthers have no interest in DeSean Jackson."

That’s all well and good, but they absolutely should have at least some interest in bringing Jackson into the fold to help Cam Newton after they let every other one of his weapons walk during the free agency period.
