It wasn’t that long ago that the Arizona Cardinals were pawning off Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the Philadelphia Eagles and it seems like ages ago that he was a dud following that trade. But his stellar year with the Denver Broncos had brought about a resurgence in his talents and the New York Giants are looking to cash in.

After inking Rodgers-Cromartie to a fat contract, it appears that they’re going to be making him a big part of their defensive secondary — in fact, the biggest part of their defensive secondary.

Per the Newark Star-Ledger:

"The Giants don’t appear to have any reservations. They plan to use him as a shutdown, No. 1 cornerback even with the established Prince Amukamara and fellow free-agent signing Walter Thurmond on the roster."

While this could be interpreted as a slight against Prince Amukamara, it’s actually a move that may help make him more effective for the Giants.

Making Rodgers-Cromartie the No. 1 cornerback on the roster is no small decision to make, but the Giants clearly have faith and the expectations have been set very high.
