The Notre Dame football community is very excited about having QB Everett Golson back from suspension this season. After all, he was the man that managed the offense well enough to guide them to the BCS National Title Game two years ago and an undefeated season as the defense carried much of the load. But, don’t slot him right into that starting spot just yet–not if Malik Zaire has anything to say about it.
“Without a doubt. There will only be one guy starting on Aug. 30th against Rice at Notre Dame Stadium, there will only be one guy out on the field, and I believe that will be me,” he said.
There were even some that called for Zaire to see the field last season over Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix in the absence of Golson, but head coach Brian Kelly chose to go in the direction of experience, and save his prized pupil.
If anything, this Notre Dame quarterback competition should be one of the best to watch play out on the practice field throughout the summer, and Kelly hasn’t given a timetable yet for when he will name who indeed will take the field against Rice on Aug. 30 as the signal caller.
