Padres' Jedd Gyorko breaks Yankees' news

News can come from the most unlikely of places. Earlier in the off season, Dallas writer Jamie Kelly reported that David Murphy would be going to the Indians because his daughter said so.\

Now, a player from across the country has reported New York Yankee news. Padres’ infielder Jedd Gyorko tweeted this out:

“Dino24Baseball” is the Twitter handle of New York Yankees prospect Dean Anna. Dean Anna was one of the names rumored to be the backup to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who is coming off of a season ending injury. Thanks to Gyorko, the world now knows that one of the Yankees’ top prospects is getting his chance as he makes the Opening Day roster. The club has not officially announced this news yet.

Anna was a minor league teammate of Gyorko’s in the Padres’ system and is a natural second baseman, but he will now backup a veteran and legend who is in his last year of Major League service. Dean Anna has played his entire career in the minors, and the 27 year old is a career .286/.386/.428 hitter.

The closest competition to Dean Anna was former Ranger Yangervis Solarte. This Spring, Anna has appeared in 21 games, going .268/.375/.293.
