The Buffalo Sabres will honor one of the greatest netminders in franchise history next season, when they officially retire the No. 39 that was worn by Dominik Hasek during his lengthy career.

Hasek, who is already in the Sabres Hall of Fame, will become the seventh player in the team’s history to have his number lifted into the rafters.

The team announced the decision to retire Hasek’s number on the social media account:

On top of having his number retired, Hasek is expected to be named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in June.
