South Florida offers job to UNLV head coach Dave Rice

The South Florida Bulls have offered UNLV head coach Dave Rice to be the head coach of the men’s basketball team, according to ESPN.

USF had come to an agreement earlier in the week with Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello, but after it was discovered he didn’t graduate from the University of Kentucky the school parted ways.

Jeff Goodman is reporting that Rice would be in line for a substantial raise should he accept the job as he has been offered a five-year deal for more than $1 million per season, Rice earns $700,000 at UNLV.

USA Today’s Dan Wolken is of the opinion that Rice should bolt for the opportunity.

Rice took his alma mater to the NCAA tournament in each of his first two seasons, but failed to make the tourney this year despite a 20-13 record.

UNLV currently has the No. 5 recruiting class coming in next year according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings so it will be interesting to see if Rice leaves his alma mater with an infusion of talent coming and if UNLV will give him a raise to keep him in town.
