There is no denying that the Washington Redskins have been the topic of discussion for years. Unfortunately, it has been for the wrong reasons. Most recently, late night talk show host Stephen Colbert has joined the movement as he addressed the most recent controversy on Wednesday’s edition of his show The Colbert Report.
As I said, the Redskins have been the topic of discussion for quite some time. There have been cries of outrage over the team’s name, as many find it offensive to the Native American community. Through everything, the team has been adamant that there is no derogatory undertone to the name, and that they have no intention of changing their name anytime soon.
Just recently, in an effort to make strides towards improving the team’s image in the Native American community, Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder sent a letter to fans which laid out a plan to start the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation.
I can’t help but feel like his naming skills need quite a bit of improvement.
In the video, Colbert explains some of the things that the foundation has done in order to help in the Native American community, all the while, pretty much ripping Snyder’s effort to shreds.
Take a look for yourself. Here is a look at the clip from Wednesday’s edition of The Colbert Report.
